Having two fantastic mentors for my UX Design and Frontend courses has made the difference in preparing me to move from the print to digital space. They each became my personal cheerleader and at times had more confidence in my abilities than I did. By tailoring the course curriculum to best fit my needs, they kept me on track to successfully reach my goals and instilled in me the desire to keep learning. Though our mentor chats have ended, we remain in communication and I consider them valuable colleagues to have in my network.
As I wanted to switch my career from Marketing to UX design, I decided to take on the UX design course at Thinkful. It was a great experience, with a great curriculum. The weekly 1 to 1's with your personal mentor are really helpful, as you discuss your coursework and you get an industry professionals feedback and insights about your work. The online course itself is also good, exercises are fun and insightful. Thinkful's UX design course is great because you also work on a couple of projects which you can actually use for your portfolio, which is one of the main reasons why I decided to go with Thinkful. Additionally, I thought the 'student service' was great: If you have any questions about payment, curriculum or anything else, they are quick to reply and help you the best they can. All in all a great learning experience!
I had a great experience with my mentor, Alissa Pierce, and the UX Thinkful Course. I took this course to refresh some of the traditional education I received a while back, to brush the dust off my UX training. There is a great amount of flexibility, in that the pacing of the course can be changed based on your availability. The materials and links are rich with information. My parting observation - the more time you put into the course, the more you will get out of it!
I did a lot of research when it came to looking to a UX Design course. I was looking for a program that would offer hands-on projects and mentoring. I got both of those with Thinkful's UX Design course. The way the course was set-up was very organized and straightforward. There was a lot of reading materials which were very relevant and interesting. My mentor was absolutely amazing. Initially, I was a little worried about doing a course and getting placed with a mentor. However, they matched me so well with my mentor. She had a lot of experience, was passionate, and made a career switch as I was planning to do. Overall, this course has prepared me to use the skills I gained and to further practice. I would have loved to spend even more time in the course and soak up information. I know the course will get better and better as time goes on.
I am new to this field of UX design. It was wonderful experience learning something new.
I have enjoyed the UX Design Thinkful course very much over the past month. I think the course work is very informative and relevant and gives a good overview of what goes in to UX Design. I have really enjoyed my mentor. I think that is the most valuable part of the program is having someone who knows what they are doing give advice and guidance. Of course, with programs like this you get out what you put into them. As long as you are willing to put the work in Thinkful will help you progress in a positive way.
My experience taking the UX Design course was pretty great! Unfortunately, when I first started the class I was paired with an instructor that was unable to attend meetings after the first week. I was paired with a new mentor after about a week. I was not refunded for my first 2 weeks (I had to start over with the new mentor). Once I was paired with Tom, everything was awesome! He simply explained any area of UX Design that I was struggling with, gave me great ideas, helped me realize things that could be improved upon, told me a lot about real world experience and how to help myself in the future and spoke to me as a professional. I am giving a 4 star rating for "Instructors" based solely on the fact that my first instructor quit. If I was rating Tom, he would get 10 stars. The course curriculum is well written and very easy to understand. The projects are great and lend themselves to be open-ended and can turn into amazing portfolio pieces.
This course teaches the basics and implementation of user experience design.
I started the online-only course with some apprehension, but I was quickly relieved once I started my weekly meetings with my mentor. I love that the course is designed so that you can work at your own pace, which makes it great for people like me who work full time. On top of getting weekly video hangouts with your mentor to get feedback and discuss your work, mentors are also available via Slack and email throughout the week. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time, and I am already applying what I've learned to my design process. The Thinkful site is very well organized and the tools make it easy to keep track of all the coursework. Overall, it has been a great experience!
I found the overall course content to be decent, though I would've liked it to go more in-depth on most subjects, perhaps via optional assignments and such. Fortunately my mentor is fantastic, so she gave me lots of extra resources to explore and challenges to learn from, making the overall experience really excellent. While I can't comment on the technical courses, I'd certainly recommend Thinkful's design courses in an instant. The Thinkful support team has always been very friendly and relaxed, making my interactions with the company much more enjoyable.
