We are partnering with the University of San Diego to bring web development courses and career services to USD’s School of Professional and Continuing Education, with the ultimate goal of helping students launch fulfilling careers in technology.

USD will host Thinkful’s Engineering Flex course, a flexible program with 1-on-1 mentorship and a full-time support team designed around your schedule and built to get you a job as a full-stack engineer in six months. Full Stack Flex teaches students web development basics such as HTML, CSS, APIs, GitHub, Node.js, React, as well as data structures and algorithms – all competitive coding languages and models utilized at the most notable technology companies in the world.

In searching for a West Coast university partner, we had a few criteria requirements in mind such as a vibrant, tech-friendly community and a diverse talent pool. USD checked all these boxes, and furthermore, the community’s openness to tech innovation made San Diego a no-brainer.

Job Ready In Six Months

USD students will acquire the necessary skills to meet the enormous local demand for web and software development workers. With more companies planting roots in San Diego, there is an opportunity to establish San Diego as a serious technology city with the potential to grow the community -- once hyper-focused on the biotech and military industries -- into a West Coast tech hub. On any given day, a quick search on ZipRecruiter will show hundreds of open full stack web developer jobs in the San Diego area with an average salary of $103,384 per year.

The USD / Thinkful program gives students the unique opportunity to transition into higher-paying, more rewarding and fulfilling technology jobs that have the potential to raise graduates’ standards of living. On average, Thinkful graduates increase their annual incomes by more than $19k with more than 413 Thinkful graduates landing highly-competitive tech jobs in the last year alone.

“We saw an opportunity to close the skills gap in an area that is projecting growth more than double the average rate for all occupations,” said Andy Drotos, Director of Professional and Public Programs at USD’s School of Professional and Continuing Education. “There will be a need for an additional 24,000 web developers over the next ten years and we found the perfect partner to help us place new boot camp graduates into the marketplace.”

Thinkful’s Growth

With 22 tech communities under our belt, we strategically aim to have a presence in every emerging tech hub across the United States. As a component of our long-term growth trajectory, university-based programs help expand our hiring network and gives Thinkful graduates more opportunities to leverage career support services and establish career roots.

Our partnership with USD comes on the heels of Thinkful’s first university partnership with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) earlier this year. UWM was our first foray into working with universities and the great excitement and momentum we felt just within the first few months of being a part of the UWM family makes us thrilled to be a part of the USD community for years to come.
